Service terms
How bench work is requested, agreed, invoiced, tested, collected and stored.
1. Requests and consultations
Work starts with a request. Philip reads every request himself. If it’s work he can do well, he’ll contact you to book a consultation, in the shop or by phone. Consultations are held inside shop hours, Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A request isn’t a booking, and the shop may decline any job.
2. Acceptance and the invoice
If you both agree after the consultation, Philip accepts the job and emails you an invoice. That is when the job is booked. Nothing is owed before then, and nothing is paid on this website.
3. Prices
Labor only. Parts, ammunition and tax are extra. The shop rate is $95 an hour, lathe and mill work is $135 an hour, and the minimum bench charge is $50 per firearm.
4. Evaluation
The bench evaluation fee is $60. It comes off your bill if you go ahead with the work.
5. Estimates and approval
You get a written estimate when the job is accepted, before work starts. If the job looks likely to run more than 10 percent over it, work stops until you’ve approved the difference.
6. Timing
The price list shows the typical time each job takes. It’s an honest estimate, not a promise. When your job could start is settled at the consultation, and your own dates come in writing when the job is accepted. If they change, you’ll hear from the shop.
7. Parts ordered for you
Parts ordered specially for your job are on your invoice, and are paid for before they’re ordered.
8. Your own parts
Welcome. The shop will fit them, can’t stand behind a part it didn’t supply, and may decline one it doesn’t trust.
9. Drop-off
At a time agreed with the shop, inside shop hours. Firearms arrive unloaded and cased. The one exception is a live round stuck in the chamber: write before you bring it, so we know it is coming and can tell you how. Bring a government ID. Existing wear is noted at check-in, so there are no surprises on either side.
10. Records
Firearms left for work are logged as federal law requires.
11. Test fire
Any job that affects how a firearm works is test fired before it goes home: $20 plus ammunition. Factory ammunition only.
12. Work the shop won’t do
The shop won’t remove or disable a safety, won’t do work that leaves a firearm unsafe or unlawful, and may decline any job.
13. Pickup
Inside shop hours. A firearm goes back only to the person who brought it in, with ID. Anyone else must complete the federal form and a background check. Anything still owed on the invoice is due at pickup.
14. Storage
Please collect within 30 days of being told it’s ready. After that, storage is $25 a month.
15. Unclaimed firearms
A firearm left 90 days after notice, with no word from its owner, is handled as Texas law provides for unclaimed property. This section in particular needs an attorney’s wording before it says anything more.
16. If something isn’t right
Labor can’t be returned. If something isn’t right with work the shop did, bring it back and tell us.
17. Workmanship
To be written by the owner.
